Real Jake – Scenes 10 – 13

SCENE # 10
INTERIOR – JOHNNIE’S BEDROOM – NIGHT
Johnnie and his obese wife Gina are fast asleep in their extravagantly large master bedroom. The telephone that sits on Johnnie’s night table is ringing and ringing. Finally, Gina stirs up, angrily slams her fist in the vicinity of Johnnie’s crotch, and screams out;
GINA
Johnnie! Answer the goddamn telephone! Johnnie!
Johnnie growls.
The telephone continues to ring. Gina once again slams her fist near Johnnie’s groin, this time just missing the mark. Johnnie screams out in pain.
JOHNNIE
What the fuck ?
GINA
The phone, Johnnie, answer the frigging phone!
Johnnie, still half asleep, tries to locate the telephone with his outstretched hand, and finally succeeds.
INTERIOR – POLICE INTERROGATION ROOM #2 – NIGHT
Tony De Luca, after being blown off by Frank, is speaking on the telephone.
TONY
Johnnie? This is Tony. Tony De Luca. You remember me, don’t you?
INTERIOR – JOHNNIE’S BEDROOM – NIGHT
JOHNNIE
Do you know what time it is, Tony?
SCENE # 11
CAMERA SHOT OF AN OLD BRIGHTON BEACH, BROOKLYN TENEMENT BUILDING – NIGHT
INTERIOR – KIDNAPPERS APARTMENT – NIGHT
In a sparsely furnished, run down apartment, three Russian men, the kidnapper among them, are smoking cigarettes, drinking vodka and playing cards. Carlotta, Johnnie’s kidnapped daughter, is still knocked out, fast asleep in a bed in the corner of the room.
VLADIMIR
(IN RUSSIAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES)
When is the boss going to make the call?
BORIS
(IN RUSSIAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES)
I told you, tomorrow. He wants the fact that someones kidnapped his precious little princess to sink in.
VLADIMIR
(IN RUSSIAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES)
What time is it?
ANTON
(IN RUSSIAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES)
Are you going to ask for the time every frigging minute?
Anton looks at Boris.
ANTON
(IN RUSSIAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES)
He’s such a putz!
SCENE # 12
Johnnie is still talking with Tony on the telephone.
JOHNNIE
I’ll see what I can do Tony. (A pause) Yeah, I know I owe you.
While Johnnie is attempting to hang up the phone in the dark, Gina, who had wandered downstairs for a late night snack, enters the room in sheer panic and turns on the light.
GINA
Aahahaaaaaaaaa!!!
Gina can’t squeeze a word out of her mouth. Instead, she repeatedly jabs her finger in the direction of Carlotta’s room.
JOHNNIE
What the hell’s going on, Gina?
GINA
Carlotaaaaa! Carlotaaaaa!
SCENE # 13
INTERIOR POLICE STATION HOLDING CELL – NIGHT
Jake and Tony are having a conversation. The riff-raff in the cell keep far away from the two, knowing that Tony’s well connected.
TONY
What’s the name of that taxi company you work for?
JAKE
Hell’s Kitchen Taxi Service.
TONY
Yeah. I think I’ve heard of it. I think I’m going to use you guys.
JAKE
That would be great, sir.
TONY
Sir? What’s up with this sir shit?
Tony puts his arm around Jake.
TONY
Call me Tony, kid, got it?
JAKE
Yeah, sure, eh, Tony.
TONY
I heard them call you Jake. Is that your real name?
JAKE
Sure is, Tony.
TONY
Cool name, Jake. Always liked that name.
JAKE
Thanks, Tony.
A policeman approaches the holding cell and looks down at a list of names written on the piece of paper in his hand.
POLICEMAN
Anthony De Luca, Jake Goldstein,
you guys made bail, you can go.
The Policeman inserts his key into the the holding cell door.
POLICEMAN (CONTINUED)
And De Luca. You got a phone call. Go see Detective Russo.
TONY
I like you, kid.
JAKE
You’re a good man, Tony.
TONY
Yeah.
