They both felt this almost unbearable attraction towards each other. For Paula, it stemmed for the most part from the intimate details of his life that Greg had divulged to her during his black out. It generally took years, if ever, that a person got to know an other’s deepest fears and secrets. She felt such tenderness towards him, surprising even herself. And he was warm and kindhearted. This much she instinctively knew after just a few minutes of being in his company.

Greg had been with beautiful women before. But nothing even resembling Paula. He now found it difficult to avert his face from hers for the even the smallest of amounts of time.

But deep down, Greg knew full well that it wasn’t her looks alone that attracted him to her with such immense intensity. When she had told him that he had revealed his life story to her last evening, she did it in such a loving and tender manner. He unknowingly felt that he had finally found someone that he could trust completely. That was always at the root of his breakup’s with various girlfriends throughout the years. In some way, matter or form, he had grown to distrust them.

They could not keep their hands from touching each others bodies. Before long, they made love once again. This time, it was as if they had been intimate for years. Slowly, no sense of a need to rush, with much foreplay. She actually ached to feel him back inside her. When they had satisfied the other once again, they both began to laugh. It was the laughter of love, born of the belief that one has truly found their life partner. This was the happiest Greg could ever recall himself feeling.

Though Paula felt for the most part as Greg did, there were matters weighing on her mind to such an extent that she could only fully enjoy it all but for a moment.

“Greg, when you black out like you did last night, do you ever regain any memories?”

“I usually begin to remember things in a very vague sot of way after a few days. Why do you ask?”

“Reznik wasn’t fooling around. He has no sense of humor, and nothing he says can be easily disregarded. For some reason, you’re in a lot of danger”.

“Why don’t we just get the truth out there, that I don’t recall a thing that was said to me last night. It’s no lie”.

“It wouldn’t make a difference, baby. If this person thinks that there’s even the remotest of chances that you could compromise their position in some way, they would still feel they have no recourse but to dispose of you.”

“This is really crazy, Paula. My life is in danger over something I can’t even remember?”

Paula laid her head down on Greg’s chest. He gently stroked her hair. They didn’t move from this position for quite a while.

“You have some eggs?”, Paula asked.

“I’m a bachelor, Paula. You want some beer?”, Greg asked, smiling.

“Then let’s go out and have brunch”, Paula said.

Paula was truly fearful of Greg’s safety, but knew from prior experience how these things work. Whoever had it in for Greg would first have to clear it with their superiors. She figured they had a couple of safe days to get to the bottom of the situation. She would begin doing her part right after they ate.
